For anchors and systems that involve multiple connection points, larger carabiners with high capacity and a generous gate opening can be more practical. In sport climbing and equipment-focused use, lower weight, smooth clipping, and snag-free gate design often become more important.

Climbers building a belay and rappel kit usually need different models than those looking for lightweight carabiners for quickdraws, and users selecting hardware for anchors or pulley systems often benefit from yet another shape and locking style.
